St. Patrick’s Day has been an official holiday in Ireland since 1903 and primarily has been a religious festival. But who was this man that we are celebrating? St. Patrick was born in Roman Britain and at 16 he was enslaved for six years by Irish raiders who attacked his home. Patrick later fled to England, where he received religious instruction before returning to Ireland to serve as a missionary. By the time of his passing, St. Patrick had established monasteries, churches, and schools. The ripple effect of what St. Patrick had done in Ireland would be beautifully symbolised with the Tru-Emerald Cascade Bracelet - adorn yourself with this piece of elegance to show your Irish pride.

There are three concepts that are tied to the festivities that St. Patrick had initiated. One of the most noticeable symbols is the Shamrock, which is a three-leaf clover. According to legend, St. Patrick used the plant as a visual guide when explaining the Holy Trinity. It was called the “seamroy” by the Celts and was considered a sacred plant that symbolises rebirth and the arrival of spring.

By the 17th century, the shamrock had become a symbol of emerging Irish nationalism. During this time the English began to seize Irish land and create laws against the use of the Irish language and the practice of Catholicism. Therefore many Irish began to wear the shamrock as a symbol of their Irish heritage and displeasure with English rule.

Something one automatically associates with St. Patrick's Day is the colour green. This started in the 18th century, when the shamrock became a national symbol; if you think of Ireland’s Emerald Isle landscape, it is easy to see why the colour was so easily associated with the holiday. Shine bright with your Irish pride this St. Patrick's Day wearing an Emerald Inspiration Pendant.

Tru Emerald Crescent Earrings  Green is also the colour the Celtic mythical fairies called leprechauns (“lobaircin”) like to dress in. It was believed that they use their magical powers to serve good or evil. In Celtic folktales, leprechauns were cranky souls, responsible for mending the shoes of the other fairies.

Wearing green also comes from this folklore that believes if you wear green it will make you invisible to leprechauns, which like to pinch anyone they can see. Wear the Tru-Emerald Crescent Earrings to protect yourself from Leprechauns this St. Patrick's Day.

Don't forget to accessorise with some festive jewellery that reflects the beauty and spirit of Ireland. There's a piece of jewellery out there to suit your style and celebrate the luck of the Irish in sparkling fashion. Cheers to a day filled with shamrocks, shimmer, and St. Patrick's Day fun!
